This should make you smile

And make you proud of me.

I changed our bedroom closet door closure hardware the other day.

All by myself.

Just me.

Me alone.

No one else.

Let me show you.

THAT
AND THAT.

BOTH inside the closet, AND on the door itself.

Now it closes like it should.

Somehow the inside mechanism got busted, and I’ve been limping along with it kind of closing, but not closing. Shutting, but not staying shut.

Not it does both without any thought to it.

Thought you’d like that bit of info. 😉

Until next time, stay happy, healthy, and safe. Wash, cover, and protect yourselves.

When you have time

I feel it is important to educate yourselves with some videos that you may, or may not, have taken the opportunity to view before the upcoming elections.

Start with this, will you?

On YT, watch “SkyNewsAustraila”, ‘Lefties Losing it: Jill Biden’s ‘gaslighting’ on the View taken to ‘atomic levels’, with Rita Pahani. She is amazing.

Let me know what you think. I tried to send the video to my sisters, by blood, and by marriage, but I lost the nerve last night.

Any of you that read this, please, tell me. If you’re interested, I’m happy to send you links to many, many other videos that will give you other forms of reference with which to frame your opinion about the November election.

Tell me what you think, and why.

Until next time, stay happy, healthy, and safe. Wash, cover, and protect yourselves.

Post script: happy birthday to our oldest granddaughter Serena.

Rain update

Just to let you know, we’ve had a bit of rain, off, and on, for the past week.

Thanks to any of you out there that had influence with the Almighty.

We tend to lose power with most of the episodes, but it is only lasting a few minutes.

I still the need to holler at him that “it wasn’t me.” (That’s a lot funnier now than when I was trying to fix the blasted breaker.)

It’s storming as I type this so thanks again. Our prayers have been answered.

Don’t know if you get this on the news up North, but the city of Puebla, in the state of Puebla, has not only been flooded, but the water, 3 ft. high in places, has frozen. Damn nation. Please keep them in your prayers, will you?

I don’t want that much rain. I’m realistic.

Until next time, stay happy, healthy, and safe. Wash, cover, and protect yourselves.

Be careful what you wish

So, remember me asking to get some rain here?

We got some the other night. Lasted about 5 minutes, fairly hard, then sprinkled for another 30 minutes, at least.

The sprinkles started after the power went out for, at least, the entire block.

When the power went out I hollered across the hall to Ivan, and said “I didn’t do that.” He laughed.

None of the condos around us had power either. It had been out about 15 minutes at the time I’m typing this.

Enough already.

We got some rain, thank you very much, but at the price of electricity? Not really the bargain I was thinking about. Fortunately, it’s close enough to bedtime, we might try that. (Though I won’t have my CPAP machine, or our fans.)

Decisions, decisions.

I’m going back to playing one of my games, and will wait this out.

Until next time, stay happy, healthy, and safe. Wash, cover, and protect yourselves.

Update: It continued to lightening, and thunder for an hour, or so, and the electricity was restored within 45 minutes. We still went to bed early. (10:30p/Ivan, 11:30p/me.)

I have to show you this

If I just told you about it, you wouldn’t believe me.

Most times, when I walk around the park, in the evenings, especially, I encounter a really large dog, barking for all he’s worth. I could not figure out where he was.

Recently, walking in the park, in the evening, as I just mentioned, said dog was, as predicted, barking for all he could do. So, I stopped to investigate.

Looking around, I saw nothing, no dog, nothing.

Then, I looked up. Low, and behold, there he was. I’ll show you his photo in just a moment, but understand that this is very common down here, to have a watchdog on the roof of your home. It’s on the same level as most maids’ quarters.

Let me show you what I mean.

Can you see him?
Here’s a closer view.

Most homeowners here have live in help, as we could have had in our apartment. They are “housed” in a small room on the rooftop, as you may be able to make out in the first photo; the small concrete area below the chain link surround. That area of chain link is probably the laundry area, having the laundry hung out on the links to dry. The maid would be allowed the concrete area just underneath the fencing.

I digress.

The dog is allowed up on the roof area as an alarm against any intruders skulking beneath his gaze.

Believe me when I say that he is enough to wake the dead. You can hear him barking from blocks away, and he means business.

I just walk by, look up at him, and say hello, in English, because he needs to learn English, for some unknown reason.

Something I just thought of; in the photos, you can see, possibly, why we have very little damage to the buildings in our area when an earthquake presents. The buildings have a minimum of space between the walls of each structure, giving strength to each of them. The only ones that suffer much are the ones on the corners. They only have the support of two adjoining walls, at the 90º angle, like an L, whereas the rest of the buildings on the block have the opposing walls in support, in an H. Our building moves a few millimeters, maybe a centimeter, but it’s minimal.

That’s enough to keep you going for a bit, so I’ll close for now. Hope that last paragraph made sense to some of you.

Until next time, stay happy, healthy, and safe. Wash, cover, and protect yourselves.

Post script: we have noticed more people starting to wear masks again, but have not seen anything official, or becoming mandatory. Hopefully we won’t.

A definite drought

I believe I’ve discussed in a recent post about our lack of rain this year.

Then, I was ecstatic because we actually had a rainfall of a some significance just after that posted.

As it turns out, France is getting all of rainfall, and not bothering to share it, or send it our way. Bother.

I’ll show you a few examples of the vegetation in the park most recently. Notice how everything is shriveled up, on the verge of dying.

This jade is a perfect example of how dry it has been lately. Those leaves should be plump, and a beautiful green. Instead, they’re thin, and shriveled.
In this photo of a couple of fiddle leaf trees, the top 12” of each is coming back, but just look at the darker, dried up leaves closer to the branches.
This barrel full of succulents is thriving in the drought. It’s just across from our condo, so I see it every time I take a walk.
Just a closer view of the one above. These are some of my favorite succulents. I can see them in the park, and not have to worry about killing them with too much water.

So, if you have any influence at all with the Almighty, I’d really appreciate it if you’d convince Him to send more rain our way before all of His plants die of the lack of water.

Thanks in advance.

Until next time, please, stay happy, healthy, and safe. Wash, cover, and protect yourselves.

Wow!

What a week for politics.

First thing, former President Donald J. Trump was found guilty of 34 undeclared, completely fictional charges, with sentencing to follow on July 11th. What a joke. The entire world is laughing at the US right now.

Then, we woke up yesterday morning to discover that Mexico had its first female president, Claudia Sheinbaum, who won with over 60% of the country’s vote.

Unfortunately for me, I know nothing about her as I didn’t realize the magnitude of the election that took place. I thought it was for Governor as all of the signage was for Jefe or Jefa de Gobierna. That was a big mistake.

Anyway, that’s why we couldn’t buy any alcohol over the weekend; it was a Presidential election. Duh!

I’ll try to follow both presidencies, and let you know how either, or possibly both, go along.

Until next time, stay happy, healthy, and safe. Wash, cover, and protect yourselves.

Crappy internet

Ivan had been having to disconnect, then reconnect, the electrical plug to our 4+ year old modem every hour for the past 2, or 3 weeks.

The other day he decided he’d had enough. He finally called our internet provider, called IZZI down here, and had them check on our connection.

Of course, they said everything looked fine, but to call back when it was acting up.

So, he did. Six times. No problems from our end, they said. He asked if they would please send someone over to exchange the modem as there had to be a more modern one in existence by now.

After the 6th call, they sent a very nice gentleman to check everything at our end. He noticed the prior service man, who had come out 1 1/2 years ago, had connected a cable incorrectly, so he fixed that, then exchanged our modem for a sleek new one. We’ve been up, and running ever since.

I can’t tell you how annoying it was to be in the middle of doing something on line, just to have the connection dropped every 65 minutes of every day. Ugh!

No longer. We’re sailing smoothly, for now.

Until next time, stay happy, healthy, and safe. Wash, cover, and protect yourselves.

Post script: the internet couldn’t be faster done here if it tried. I can upload photos to the blog in less than 10-12 seconds. And, they aren’t trying to reload, and reload, and reload, ending up with 4, or 5 of the same photo.

Lovely.

Joke’s on us

There are general elections here tomorrow, the 2nd of June

Today, as I’m typing this, it’s the Saturday, the day before said elections. It is also, as you may recall, our designated evening for drinks.

Unbeknownst to us, there is no alcohol sold, anywhere in the city, for 3 days prior to the election!

Hence, no drinks until Tuesday, if then even.

Too funny.

I say we make a note of that for the next elections down here.

Until next time, stay happy, healthy, and safe. Wash, cover, and protect yourselves.

Quick tip

Did you know that, when boiling chicken for enchiladas, as an example, if you wait until the water is at a full boil, you won’t have any of the foaming protein rise to the top?

Totally true. I learned that from Rachel Cooks with Love, on her YT channel.

As it happened, I was getting ready to boil a couple of chicken breasts to make said enchiladas, and remembered her saying that. So I tried it.

It worked. I let the water come to a rapid boil, placed the ingredients I had for a nice chicken broth, to be used later, into the pot along with the chicken breasts. It came to a second boil, and nothing. It just boiled. I reduced it to a simmer for 30 minutes without having to remove the scum which was normally floating on top. (If you don’t remove the scum/protein, your broth will be cloudy instead of clear.

Happy day.

So, now I’m off to put together said enchiladas, and get them in the oven for lunch this afternoon.

Until next week meet, stay happy, healthy, and safe. Wash, cover, and protect yourselves.
