Not finished yet

Unfortunately, the allergic reaction is not completely done with me just yet.

I am taking Benadryl daily; to no real affect. I still itch everywhere. It comes in small spurts, like small eruptions of itches. If I touch a spot, inadvertently, that spot starts itching. Very annoying.

Fortunately, though, I have had no difficulty breathing. That is my worst nightmare. Of my 4 memorable reactions, only 2 have resulted in difficulty breathing, thank the good Lord. It is such a horrible feeling, I cannot describe it.

Enough said. I am definitely better, and am hoping this is completely gone in the next 24-36 hours. One can only hope.

Hell on Earth

Once again, I have been the object of the fierceness of nature, or nature’s nemesis.

Pesticides.

About 11pm last night, I went to the kitchen, and ate 4 ribs of celery, rinsed quickly, under the running water of the kitchen sink, (I didn’t soak them in the disinfectant, as I should have). Slathered with peanut butter, they were delicious.

For about the next half hour.

Then it began; my night of Hell on Earth.

The palms of both my hands started to itch, then, the itching became unrelieved by scratching, slapping, anything. I ran cold water over them, not even considering, yet, that it was an allergic reaction to whatever I didn’t rinse off the celery.

After about 30 minutes of this torture, reality hit me square int the face, so, I got up, and took 75mg. of Benadryl, and 800 mg Ibuprofen, hoping I had caught it in time. (In this family, if one takes Benadryl, one simply must take the Ibuprofen at the same time. If not, it makes our legs jump, for hours.)

I sat up for about 2 hours, hoping the itching would stop; definitely not interested in an ED visit. Truth be told, it only got worse. It spread to my arm pits, my groin, under my breasts, my scalp, ears, face.

Then, as quickly as it started, I became too sleepy to stay awake any longer, so I went to bed. And slept.

Until about 2pm today. When I got up, I noticed a bit of itching, still. Then, I saw the hives. It’s a fairly dramatic sight, seeing your whole body covered with all different sized red weals.

The itching is coming back in droves. I just took another 100mg of Benadryl, and 1G of Ibuprofen. I am taking this itch-racked sack of weals to bed for the rest of the day. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.

Stay happy, healthy, and safe. Wash your hands, (and your produce), cover your mouth, and protect yourselves.

Quinceañera

We traveled about 45 minutes the other day, to attend a 15th birthday celebration, a quinceañera, for one of Jesús’ female cousins.

Everything here, in the hall, is very pretty, but extremely loud. Poor baby Brandon is having a bit of a time trying to sleep.

Somehow he’s able to sleep.

Now, it is almost 9:00pm; we’ve been here 2 hours, and are just now being served dinner. 😁

The first course was a delicious, creamy mushroom soup, served with several bowls of white bread. A wonderful way to begin our dinner.

Next, we enjoyed spaghetti with a white sauce, that included small bits of a green chile. I think it was probably serrano. It wasn’t too spicy, but added a note of interest.

I’m pretty excited about what’s coming next.

I am here to say that the sliced pork roast in gravy, with real mashed potatoes, with small potato bits even, was delicious. The photo I took was in motion so I can’t post it. I do believe you know what pork and potatoes look like, however. It tasted as good as it looked. This photo is the best I can offer.

The potatoes got eaten before I realized my first photo was crap.

Now, there’s going to be more loud music and dancing; just as I was regaining some of my hearing. Then, (read hopefully soon), we’ll be on our way back home.

Nope. That didn’t happen. There was drinking and dancing until 2am. A great time was had by all.

I forgot to mention that I was one of two females in slacks. The 70+ other females all wore dresses.

Ugh.

Round 3

I’m giving it another go.

Probably not the last go, but another go.

Thyme, oregano, basil. Again.

I bought bunches of each of these herbs, again, from Soriana, and am trying, again, to get the little buggers to grow. This time, it seems to be working. I’m not sure if you can see the roots beginning to form, but they’re there.

Lavender, from the park.

The above lavender, that I reallocated from the park, is actually growing. All of the tiny leaves are soft, and wonderful smelling. It has been in the pot for about 3 weeks now. When I stop trying to drown them, they grow quite nicely. I really need to stop drowning the plants, poor things.

I also bought a couple packages of rosemary, and have stripped several of the stems, to the soft tops, and have put them into the same small glass yogurt glasses as in the first photo. I am hoping they, too, will take root. I have seen, on the internet, that all 4 of those herbs can, and do, grow well in water. Yay! I can’t drown them.

Here they all are; all growing roots. Rosemary on the far left.

We shall see.

For now, stay happy, healthy, and safe. Wash your hands, cover your mouth, and protect yourselves.

Groceries

We went to Costco yesterday. This is what we needed to bring up the groceries from the sidewalk.

This is one of the large totes; on the wheelie thing that we use to move heavy stuff. Of course it has a name, I just can’t remember what it is, at the moment.

Ivan just told me it is called a dolly. Well, of course it is. It has to pull this duty only once a month now. Lucky sod.

Sorry.

I have gotten my second, third, or, maybe fourth wind, so to speak, but this is some of what happened, after we got back from shopping.

I have torn the kitchen, and pantry apart, and they have been transformed. And I do mean transformed. The dried chiles, herbs, and some of the cook ware, are now in the kitchen, (where they need to be); the appliances, for the most part, are in the pantry, (again, where they should be), and all of flours that have not been used in months, have been relegated to a very high shelf, in the kitchen; not in my user zone. Take a look.

Before. The Japanese dishes are in the hutch; the other items have found new homes in the pantry. All of the items on the top shelf have been shoved into the corner cupboard, to be dealt with another day.
After. The flours I’m not using are up above, with the herbs on the top shelf, and the dried chiles on the bottom shelf.
Before. This is where the herbs, and dried chiles used to live, making me go back and forth each time I wanted to use them. Dumb.
After. Now, all of the items I use most frequently, and had to bend over to get them out of a lower kitchen cabinet, live on these shelves, making it much easier for me to retrieve, and us them. Yay!!

DAMN.

They are ever changing, ever evolving spaces; never to be left “as is” for very long. When, or if, I ever feel the rightness of the space, it will be that way until

Such a day

I have not slept yet; not since, at least, yesterday.

I don’t think.

I really can’t remember. I nap, because, as mom used to say, “just rest your eyes. You don’t have to sleep, just close your eyes, and rest.”

I have tried to close my eyes, and rest; to no avail.

Today, however, we went to Costco, and bought out their meat department. Good thing for you, you didn’t follow us. You would have been very sad to see nothing left in their refrigerated meat area.

We bought another sirloin primal, to be cut up, and dealt with tomorrow. (All I really wanted was the sirloin cap, or the picaña.) It is an amazing part of the sirloin; probably the most succulent piece of meat on the entire cow. Really. It is praised here, and in many Latin countries around the world, as the “queen of meat”. If you ever try the cap, you will understand why, exactly, it is so revered.

I am going to cut up the primal piece tomorrow; cut up, and sous vide the picaña. I can’t wait. We have gotten a fresh batch of handmade, completely from scratch, corn tortillas, from Alicia, (Liz’ mom), and I am ready to make some incredible salsas so we can devour this picaña.

I will try to remember to photo everything so you can enjoy the picaña with us.

Bamboo sheets

Who’d a thought it?

Not only do I wear bamboo tops, but now, we sleep on the most amazing bamboo sheets.

They are so soft, and cool. The don’t hold their shape well however. As our mattress is 12” deep, with a 3” memory foam topper, it is hard to find fitted sheets that fit.

All of the fitted sheets we brought with us are for a 12” deep mattress; what we had prior to this mattress. Consequently, none of them stay fitted to the mattress. One, sometimes 2 corners of the sheet come off of the bed, making it all wrinkled, making it difficult for me to sleep. (Remember the Princess and the Pea? I’m that Princess.)

That said, if you have an opportunity to purchase new sheets, I highly recommend trying the bamboo sheets. Bamboo is highly sustainable, hypoallergenic, and all kinds of other wonderful adjectives. Try it. You just might like it.

Oh, they also have the elastic straps across the corners to help keep the damn thing in place.
